#DIGITALTRADIES: READY, TEDDY, GO! MEET HARVEY WORTON - CIO, TRIATHLETE AND... BEAR
Welcome to the seventh episode of #DigitalTradies!
In this series, we catch up with some very awesome people in the Lendlease Digital family (we call “Digital Tradies”) to find out what they do and what they’re working on right now, with Podium.
We spoke with Harvey Worton, our Group Co-CIO at Lendlease Digital who also happens to be a bit of a triathlete.
Tell us about yourself
I’ve been at Lendlease just over 10 years now. I’m currently the Group Co-CIO, so I have a partner in crime (David Lipscomb). My role is really about helping Lendlease to become a more digitally enable company and helping set up for a more sustainable future and long-term success. And then, on the personal side, I love all sports - particularly endurance sports which I’ve been involved in for about 20 years.
We’ve heard you’re a bit of a triathlete. How did you get into it?
My first job in Sydney many years ago was at a brewery - and in that brewery, there was a big community that was involved in triathlon. So, I kind of got into it organically - started off doing some local races and then got the bug and it stayed with me for years!
What are you currently working on?
Lendlease has always been a very innovative and we’re now on a journey to really become a digital company. I think one of the great things about Lendlease is that it realises it doesn’t just have to change internally but it’s doing its bit to help transform an industry. There are some great examples on our website of what we’re doing through Podium, our property lifecycle platform - so I would encourage everyone to jump on there and see in a bit more detail about what we do.
What inspires you to log in every day?
I’m fascinated by the ongoing challenge of assembling the right individuals with the best skills and attitude to form a team of people that can move together forward very fast, under a common purpose. This is something that I’ve always been interested in and will stay with me for the rest of my career.
What are your words of wisdom for aspiring Digital Tradies?
It’s important to remember that people make technology great. And so, what we’re doing is bringing together the best people with the best technology to create an innovation that will change an industry.
Be authentic. Expect to be challenged. Expect to learn. And expect to have a lot of fun along the way.
Finally, what is your spirit animal?
Bear! Bears are super independent. I’m independent. They are animals that need to feel a sense of freedom in whatever they’re doing, and I’m definitely like that. They also don’t mind a little bit of solitude and quiet time, but they want to be strong for the people around them. And lastly, they’re good on land and they can also swim which is really important to me.
